BEAN LSF Biodiversity Learning in Action Workshop

Key Features of this unique Professional Development event:

  • The focus is on using natural phenomena that occur outside every school to learn about biodiversity while addressing expectations in all subject areas through integration and inquiry.
  • Takes place at Belfountain Public School where the school’s teaching staff will invite participants to visit classes, facilitate debriefing, and outline their whole school approach to using local outdoor learning opportunities.
  • Online interaction amongst participants before and after the event.
  • Receive two key resource documents –Natural Curiosity and Connecting the Dots: Keys Strategies for Environmental Education, Citizenship and Sustainability.
  • Limited to 20 participants. No fee to participate.  Release time support of up to $250 is available for those participants who require it.

Who Should Apply to Attend

  • K to 6 classroom and non-formal educators who value and want to advance their use of student experiences with biodiversity as a means of engaging students in all learning.
  • Educators with some experience and/or leadership in addressing biodiversity concepts.
  • Note: there is no subsidy for travel to Belfountain Public School located northwest of Toronto. This is a full day event and lunch will be provided. 

Preparation -Visit Step Outside: Your Guide to Nature’s Events, which three times a month provides teachers with insights as to what is happening in nature. The workshop will focus on and feature learning linked to these events in nature.

How to Apply: Cmplete the application form, which requires the description of a biodiversity learning experience that you have used or plan to use. Apply by March 31st. Successful applicants will be notified by April 15.
