Vision
To create a culture of sustainability education in the province to support the overall goal of the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development, 2005-2014, which is “…to integrate the values inherent in sustainable development into all aspects of learning to encourage changes in behaviour that allow for a more sustainable and just society for all.”
Purpose
The purpose of the Working Group is to provide an opportunity for all interested organizations and agencies to work together collaboratively and in a spirit of mutual cooperation to pool resources, expertise, knowledge, and experience in order to achieve the vision.
Goals:

To develop and maintain a collaborative effort of all stakeholders involved in sustainability education in New Brunswick.

To ensure that policy, regulatory, and operational frameworks in New Brunswick support sustainability education.

To promote sustainability through formal education.

To promote sustainability through non-formal and informal learning.

To equip educators with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to include sustainability in their teaching.

To promote research and development of sustainability education.
Work Plan 2009 Highlights:
- Establishment of 6 SEA-NB regional councils, which would involve youth, NGOs, local businesses, and other organizations in local sustainability projects
- Establish a teacher contact for ESD in each school in the province
- Develop an on-line database of sustainability education tools and resources for the general public
- Encourage sustainable behaviours in schools across the province and advance a green schools policy for New Brunswick
- Provision of recommendations to the Minister of Education’s Task Force on Citizenship Education
- Development of a marketing and communications plan for SEA-NB
